Veterinary Services is still a rare skill in South Africa, and is not easily accessible, nor is it readily available to all people. This has led to some Veterinary students forming VETSCO, a veterinary student founded club that comprises of student Vets and nurses who voluntarily offer Veterinary services to communities. This initiative is making a huge difference in the various communities which they service, and ultimately, the country at large.
VETSCO will not only serve as an up-skilling exercise for these undergraduate professionals, but will also enable them to impart their knowledge on the communities which they volunteer at. They offer a range of services, which includes clinical services, extension and awareness campaigns on Zoonotic diseases as their core specialities.
Much like all non-profit organisations, in order for VETSCO to be a success, constant funding is needed. CEVA South Africa has donated a total sum of R10 000.00 towards this initiative.
